Know your Priorities, your Soul’s Purpose
To get balance in life we first of all need to know what our priorities are. To know what our priorities are we need to know what our unique (Soul) purpose in life is. If you don’t know yet, click this link to find out.
To get balance in life is a juggling act. If we don’t keep all the balls moving, like the juggler, we will drop them all. To live healthily and purposefully all our basic needs have to be met (as per Maslow’s hierarchy of needs; Physiological, Security, Emotional, love and belonging, Esteem and Self actualization).
We can chuck one ball a lot higher and keep on juggling the others, but the ball comes down and we need to deal with it. So we can neglect an aspect of our life for a while, but then we need to take care of it again, or we may lose it.
The main areas are:
- Health; exercise, nutrition, hydration
- Wealth; and the way we deal with money and finances
- Career; work
- Family; children, parents, siblings, partner/spouse, love, sex, intimacy
- Friends & Social
- Community has to do with service, clubs, associations, groups.
- Rest , restoration & recuperation; includes travel, hobbies and other fun activities.
- Intellectual; mental stimulation, exploring, learning new things
- Spiritual practice
If you had to rate your life in the previous areas on a scale of one to ten, where one is downright terrible and ten is excellent, exquisite, where would you be?If you had to draw a circle with these main areas as your axes and the points were on a graph, what would your wheel of life look like?

Let go of perfection
You are already perfect exactly as you are. Really, really.
Adhere to the 80-20 rule; 20% effort for 80% results. Work smarter not harder. What do you need to make this happen? If you are always working (replace the word working with whatever you are spending an inordinate amount of time doing), what is it you are avoiding? Rather deal with the problem and get some movement in the matter.
Teach someone else to do some of the things that you do not like doing or that are time guzzlers.
Combine activities so that you can kill 2 birds with one stone, or 3 or 4. E.g. I love dancing, so this satisfies a number of things; exercise, social, meeting and making friends, networking, learning something new (a new step or two), or how to communicate better, how to say “no” when you need to, gives you self confidence and poise.
Plan to get balance in life
Plan and allocate time for the important things in life so that they do not get taken over by the urgent, the pressing, and crises. For assistance with Time Management, and to set goals to achieve what you want in life.
